Remote Platform

Remote Monitoring Platform

24/7 access to near real-time data from all NEXSYS-equipped locomotives.  The ZTR remote monitoring portal is used to:

  • Collect data for fleet health, fuel consumption, emissions, utilization, propulsion & control and starting performance.
  • Export data, trending, locations, location breadcrumbs, geofencing, alerts, reporting, dashboards and more.
  • KickStart equipped locomotives could also be added to the remote monitoring platform.

Case Studies

Improving Fleet Availability

Image
fleet availability

Locomotive availability is defined as the percentage of time in service to overall time.  So if a locomotive is in service 8/10 days, with the other 2 days out of service (shop time, broken down etc.) the availability is 80%.

In this study, we found one major railroad increased availability from 91 to 94% on an aging fleet of low horsepower locomotives. This is an operating cost reduction of $5.5M/year on a 1,000-unit fleet.

In this study key performance improvements were achieved through:

  • Remote monitoring providing advanced warning on maintenance
  • Reduced maintenance delays by avoiding sourcing old relays
  • Reduced DWS with saver and improved battery charging control

DC Traction Motors Replacement

Traction Motor Case Study

NEXSYS provides protection in the form of voltage and current regulation for rotating equipment such as traction motors. In this study we had a customer had a very high traction motors failure rate, flashovers, thermal damage, commutator damage. When they installed the system with Traction Motor protection, there was a 90% reduction in the failure rate.

In one of their worst years prior to NEXSYS they had close to 1000 motors changeouts. Considering $20,000 as the cost of one traction motor replacement, we can see the savings would be in the range of $18M annual savings in traction motors changeout.
